I COVER THE WATERFRONT

There is always a time where you must change, otherwise you get stuck in a box and you live in a lie. I always decided to stay true to myself, whatever I do, whether at work or in my personal life. I am always looking for new things to learn, and this is what moves you forward in life. Lately, I was pretty tired of this whole fashion-blogging-business-thing, I wanted to close my blog, my Facebook and my Twitter. I felt like everything has already been said and done, I was terribly bored with all the others bloggers whose blogs are only focused on them taking their own pictures. So I thought that it could be interesting for me to write some stuffs about my work like what I did today etc… I don’t know. I would like to bring fashion-blogging to a new level, to bring something new and innovative to it, and not just write about what I am wearing today… Let’s see where this will bring me.
Right now, I am working on a fashion book called “Démodé”, which will contain many conversations and unseen photographs of fashion designers, editors, PRs, bloggers, photographers, writers… I am incredibly excited by this, and I am looking to release it on September/October 2012. Everything will be correctly announced when it will be the right time. But I can promise you that it will be surprising, as I have the chance to work with two very talented photographers. Until then, you will be able to purchase the highly-anticipated second issue of The Ground magazine next February.
Talking about “Démodé”, I went to Maxime Simoens’office this afternoon with photographer Jean du Sartel. It was the second time I interviewed Maxime Simoens: between the first time I interviewed him and today, he became the artistic director of Maison Léonard. We sat down to talk about it and about much more… I am always amazed by his modesty and humility: he achieved “so much” in few years, it’s quite unbelievable. I also appreciated how respectful he was: he was 100% available for us, and really took the time to make sure that we had everything we needed. Talking with him is always very interesting as he is a very artistic person, he seems to be far away from the whole money-money-more-money-business of fashion. When you talk to him, you feel that what he does is truly inspired by art and something very meaningful. Once you put your feet on his office, there is some kind of warmth that makes you feel comfortable: just like Maxime, he is at the same time shy and warm. I think you can feel that when you read the interview with him last Spring [read it here]. And I think it is much more perceptible on the conversation I had with him today. You’ll know what I’m talking about next year…
